15 Insightful Bible Verses on Suffering
See, it’s not God’s will for us to suffer wrongly. However, it is inevitable that in our Christian journey, we will encounter diverse stages of suffering.
Jesus said so, that in this world we would have tribulations, and James 1 v 2 with 1 Peter 1 v 6 portrays that, too.
Yet such situations and circumstances do not mean that God has forsaken us. It will surprise you to know that such trials and temptations are things we can handle, for God will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear.
And in times like that, God has equipped you with all you need to use such moments to build up your most holy faith.
We saw this in the lives of old-time believers (like Joseph and David) who endured wrong sufferings of all kinds, but they encouraged themselves with the word of God. And surely, in the end, their sufferings were turned to joy.
Thus, no matter what you are going through spiritually, mentally, emotionally, or physically, God is always with you.
And here are 15 Insightful Bible Verses About Suffering
1- 2 Timothy 3 v 12:
“Yes, and those who decide to please Christ Jesus by living godly lives will suffer at the hands of those who hate him.” (TLB)
2- 1 Peter 3 v 14:
“Even if you have to suffer for doing good things, God will bless you. So stop being afraid and don’t worry about what people might do.” (CEV)
3- 2 Corinthians 4 v 17:
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” (NKJV)
4- Philippians 3 v 10:
“Now I have given up everything else—I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought him back to life again, and to find out what it means to suffer and to die with him.” (TLB)
5- 2 Corinthians 4 v 8 – 10:
“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don’t know why things happen as they do, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. These bodies of ours are constantly facing death just as Jesus did; so it is clear to all that it is only the living Christ within who keeps us safe.” (TLB)
6- Philippians 1 v 29:
“For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake.” (NKJV)
7- Romans 8 v 18
“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will give us later.” (TLB)
8- Psalm 34 v 19:
“The good man does not escape all troubles—he has them too. But the Lord helps him in each and every one.” (TLB)
9- Matthew 10 v 38:
“If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.” (TLB)
10- Matthew 5 v 10 – 12:
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they are good, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. When you are reviled and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers—wonderful! Be happy about it! Be very glad! for a tremendous reward awaits you up in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted too.” (TLB)
11- 2 Corinthians 1 v 6:
“We are in deep trouble for bringing you God’s comfort and salvation. But in our trouble God has comforted us—and this, too, to help you: to show you from our personal experience how God will tenderly comfort you when you undergo these same sufferings. He will give you the strength to endure.” (TLB)
12- 1 Peter 4 v 13 – 18:
“Instead, be really glad—because these trials will make you partners with Christ in his suffering, and afterwards you will have the wonderful joy of sharing his glory in that coming day when it will be displayed. Be happy if you are cursed and insulted for being a Christian, for when that happens the Spirit of God will come upon you with great glory. Don’t let me hear of your suffering for murdering or stealing or making trouble or being a busybody and prying into other people’s affairs. But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being in Christ’s family and being called by his wonderful name! For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin first among God’s own children. And if even we who are Christians must be judged, what terrible fate awaits those who have never believed in the Lord? If the righteous are barely saved, what chance will the godless have? So if you are suffering according to God’s will, keep on doing what is right and trust yourself to the God who made you, for he will never fail you.” (TLB)
13- Romans 5 v 3: – 5:
“But that’s not all! We gladly suffer, because we know that suffering helps us to endure. And endurance builds character, which gives us a hope that will never disappoint us. All of this happens because God has given us the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts with his love.” (CEV)
14- Romans 8 v 35:
“Who then can ever keep Christ’s love from us? When we have trouble or calamity, when we are hunted down or destroyed, is it because he doesn’t love us anymore? And if we are hungry or penniless or in danger or threatened with death, has God deserted us?” (TLB)
15- John 16 v 33:
“I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world.” (TLB)
Topping Off on What Does God Say About Suffering
We have seen in the above Bible Verses on Suffering that God does not want any of us to be afflicted with any form of pain or sickness. Satan is the one responsible for killing, stealing, and destruction.
Nevertheless, no matter who or what you are suffering from, it will not last forever; this is the promise of God to you. So stand in your most holy faith and watch those trials and temptations.
